Summer Tennis & Reading Program Tenacity's summer tennis program, presented in partnership with the Boston Centers for Youth & Families, will be available again this year for Boston youth between the ages of 7 and 15. Instruction takes place at 30+ neighborhood sites throughout the city. The program focuses on basic instruction, league play, and the opportunity to participate in citywide competition at the annual Mayor's Cup Tournament in August. League play includes participants from tennis programs across Boston and is consistent with the team tennis principles of the United States Tennis Association. In addition to tennis, all summer sites include a highly structured thirty minute reading session during each three-hour block of instruction to help promote academic achievement. The reading program began in the summer of 2002 with three sites and exploded in the summer of 2003, as we partnered with experts from ReadBoston to implement reading at 14 of our summer sites. In 2004, we expanded the reading program to include all 21 program sites. With our most recent program offering during 2007, we served over 4600 students in the greater Boston area! We provide the books, and staff are trained in the practice of reading aloud to help make books exciting and accessible to students of all reading levels. Tenacity students
