Session Schedule & Dates

Studies have shown that youth ten and under learn best in short time blocks and all kids learn best amongst their peers within the same age and ability range. STRP holds 2 sessions at most sites, one in the morning from 9am – 12pm (for 6-10 year olds) and one in the afternoon from 1pm – 4pm (for 11-16 year olds). There are a few sites that hold sessions only in the morning.

July 9th - August 17th 2012
Morning Session: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM for
Ages 6 - 10 years ONLY
Afternoon Session: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM for
Ages 11 - 16 years ONLY

Tennis

During the morning session we use the innovative QuickStart Tennis Format with our 6-10 year old players to help build their enjoyment of the game, while developing and refining their tennis skills more quickly and efficiently. During the afternoon session we have an expanded team tennis league so older participants will have more opportunity for skill development and competitive play.

Reading / Literacy

Both morning and afternoon session include age appropriate literacy programming. It is well established that children learn best in groups made up of their peers of the same age. Our schedule allows us to tailor our reading program to fit the ages and reading levels of our participants. We dedicate 30 minutes of the 3 hour session to literacy activities. Recent academic research has shown that a large part of the urban-suburban school performance gap can be attributed to differing summer activities. Tenacity works to narrow this gap, providing urban youth a daily dose of literacy activities throughout the summer months.

Partner Programs

In addition to the individual children who register for the program described above, Tenacity services between 40-50 partner programs, such as Boston Center for Youth and Families (BCYF) summer programs and other youth organizations who want to bring some of their campers to a site for free tennis programming. Contact us if you are interested in being a partner program.
