During my three years at Tenacity, my family, friends, and teachers have seen a huge change in me.  My love for reading has expanded and I love tennis with a passion.  Tenacity has definitely made a huge impact in my life and I'm glad that I decided to join.  It's a place where you don't have to be afraid to love reading or just being yourself...

TENACITY AMERICORPS TEAM HOSTS
MASS SERVICE ALLIANCE OPENING DAY 2009

In celebration of their year of service, Tenacity AmeriCorps members attended the Massachusetts Service Alliance's 2009 Opening Day at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday, November 6th, 2009. The Tenacity Corps was recognized for their commitment to service by being selected to host the event. The Opening Day was the official kick-off for the 2,000 Corps members serving in Massachusetts in the 109 AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps*VISTA programs.

To begin the day, key note speaker Robert Lewis Jr., Vice-President for Program at the Boston Foundation, emphasized the important work that AmeriCorps members perform within the Commonwealth. This year, thousands of Massachusetts children and adults will receive a wide range of services ranging from tutoring, mentoring, health care, and legal assistance.

The ceremony concluded with the AmeriCorps members reciting the

AmeriCorps Pledge of Service and being officially sworn in as corps members.

Following lunch the Tenacity Corps members participated in an afternoon of service, networking, and civic engagement activities. These activities allowed Tenacity Corps members to connect with others serving in Massachusetts and share their own experiences while learning about others' year of service.

Colin Murray, a corps member serving at the McCormack Middle School in Dorchester, said, “The day was a great opportunity to connect with other AmeriCorps and celebrate service and volunteerism in the state of Massachusetts.”
