During my three years at Tenacity, my family, friends, and teachers have seen a huge change in me.  My love for reading has expanded and I love tennis with a passion.  Tenacity has definitely made a huge impact in my life and I'm glad that I decided to join.  It's a place where you don't have to be afraid to love reading or just being yourself...

MEASUREMENT HIGHLIGHTS

Measurement is a vital part of our work, and we have set short-, medium-, and long-term goals for ourselves in all three major areas of the program: literacy, life skills/resilience, and tennis. We recognize the challenge of our goals given that the transition to middle school often brings with it a drop in academic success and many resilience measures. Therefore, we plan to look closely at change in our students after one, two, and three years in MSA.

Tenacity works closely with Dr. Beth Miller, of Miller-Mizdick Research Associates, to administer nationally normed assessments in both literacy and resilience.

In tennis, we rely on the Junior National Tennis Rating Scale to measure our students’ improvement.

We expect to have a complete report on our progress in the summer of 2008. There is one measure of which we are already sure; To date, 95% of MSA graduates are either succeeding in high school or have graduated from high school, compared to an estimated 30% of Boston Public School students who do not graduate from high school. We expect that the academic and life skills that students learn while in MSA greatly influence our graduates’ achievements well beyond middle school. For us, this long-term success of our students is critical.
