WHY LITERACY + TENNIS + LIFE SKILLS = TENACITY
At the start of each school year, tennis is the lure hooking Boston middle school youth to the ASEP (After-School Excellence Program), providing a structured after-school environment of academic and athletic self-improvement. In the heat of the summer, an hour of reading, writing and discussion in the shade is the perfect complement to an hour of physical exercise on the tennis court. That is the essence of our Summer Tennis & Reading Program (STRP). Kids who show improved self-confidence via tennis and fitness also demonstrate improved results in school. They focus better; they work harder; they stretch further on and off the court. That’s Tenacity.Kids who develop greater resilience and self-awareness through literacy and life skills development show greater enthusiasm for tennis and fitness activities, regardless of athletic aptitude. That, too, is Tenacity.
Tenacity relies on a community-wide network of staff members, volunteers, contributors and in-kind supporters. You, too, can help Tenacity help Boston’s kids.
